    I am trying hard to pick up the new lingo and thought maybe the natives could recommend an authority on this. This small list is just the start of my education. I would also like to be introduced to any 'new' words I may encounter in the future with an interpretation please.

      I'm no authroity on the matter, but as far as I'm aware:

      MOM - Member of the Month
      MOD - Moderator
      OH - Other Half
      OMG - Oh My God
      YGBK - I'm guessing You've Got to Be Kidding?

      There's all sorts ot "text speak" including things like WTF as an expletive. IMHO - In My Honest Opinion.

      People have been doing it for decades - lonely hearts ads have had things like GSOH, WLTM and so on.

      Of course, there's also l33tsp34k.

      leet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

      Quite handy for passwords.

      I still don't always understand all the abbreviations, but you can make a good guess when used in context.

        You've got to be kidding!

        HW = Hey Wayne [our Zen Master]
        PW = Piglet Willie [Our, well, our Rock and banana shallot meister ]
        Boble = Bob LePonge [Our resident, er, well he lives in France]

        I'll think of more later, but got to do some spreadsheets now

        Foodwise:

        BNS = butternut squash
        PSB = Purple sprouting brocolli

          When I used to write in the local newspaper column (a bit like a forum) where I met my OH, LOL used to mean Lots of Love, it totally threw me for a while, until I worked out that it was now used to mean Laugh Out Loud.

          PB xx

                  I thought that MOD was Match of the Day but there you go. Also thought that LOL was lots of love for years until it was pointed out to me. Some are handy but too many of them just make it confusing and it's usually best not to use too many of them.

                  Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                  Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                      If you don't like abbreviations, you should never get a job in the NHS.

                      I got an e-mail the other day, it's taken me a month to work out what an SHA, PCT, NPfIT, and EITS are.

                      My last job in a finance company was almost as bad, I had to train new starters so I produced a "Welcome Finance Dictionary" so they could understand all the short-hand on applications.

                        LadyWayne works in banking, and when any banking friends come round I just sit there wondering what dialect of English it is that they're talking, because I can pick out the odd word, but the rest is just noise for me.

                          Another common one, MPC, multi-purpose compost.

                          I guess lots of different professions have this kind of stuff, but I'd wager that the computer industry is one of the worst for TLA's (three letter acronyms).

                          There was one guy I used to work with who was always using them, whenever he launched into one of his incomprehensible explanations it always made me think of Robin Williams in "Good Morning Vietnam" going on about the VIP going MIA in the DMZ.
