  • Grape Afloat!

As some of you will already know from my previous thread 'What would you do? Dilemma', I have been asked to join the Novice Ladies Team for my rowing clubs' entry into the World Pilot Gig Championships in the Isles of Scilly, 2 - 4th May this year.

I originally turned it down due to lack of funds, but was asked a second time, so enquired of you good Grapes what you would do - or really, what you thought I should do, which was a resounding Go For It!...... So I am!!!

In order to do this I need to raise the funds necessary for me to go, which comes to £300, and some of you have very kindly offered to contribute towards this (this post, btw, is in no way a plea for help - I am slightly embarrassed by this aspect of it, your support is enough, which you have already freely given). As you have all been so supportive and wonderful (oh no, I hear you say, here she goes again - obviously a thwarted Oscar winner ), I thought it was only fair to keep you up to date with how it is all going, so for those of you who are interested, I'll stick it all in this thread. I'll add more when I have time (sun's shining, and I must get out in it or I may go mad before I even get to the Scillies! The veg plot is calling...), but I thought I'd let you know that I have decided to Go for it, thanks to you good folk. Of course, I will no doubt regret this when being pushed to my physical limit to get fit enough to race, but ho hum

Oh I'm so pleased! Well done! Bet your family are thrilled too. Let us know about the sponsorship thing - don't be embarrassed, we're lucky to have such a star in our midst! - maybe you could set up a Paypal link or something (I really have no idea about the pros and cons of this, just seems easy as everyone's got an email address)?

Or we can just stick tenners in an envelope? Whatever, don't feel awkward about saying what you prefer - I'm quite chuffed to be helping towards such a good cause!

Glad you've made your mind up. I wouldn't have wanted to influence your decision but I'm glad it's the positive not the negative!

As the others say - pics are compulsory!

Hear Hear! (or is it here here?) Never mind, excellent that you are going to do it anyway.

Without doubt the right choice. Well done, go for it, and when you're old (like me) you can bore your grandkids about when you were in the world champs, which not many of us will ever be able to do.

Thank you so much folks! I've just been for a very brisk walk along a stretch of the coast path, which didn't feel like a workout really, mainly because of the stunning scenery. (I know, I know, I was going to the veg plot, but then a friend I haven't see for ages rang me & asked me out for a walk instead ) I did get slightly out of breath though, so reckon it counts as training....

Of course there will be pics!! I've 'hidden' myself from you thus far, but can do so no longer. Mind you, technology sometimes defeats me, so don't hold your breath.

Thank you so much to those of you who have offered to sponsor me, I shall let you know how as soon as I've worked it out myself .

Check out Just Giving. My sis used it when she was getting sponsorship for her half marathon last year. They allow you to set up a page, and then donations can be made via this, and all you need to post publicly is a link.

Racing is on Sat 2nd and Sunday 3rd May. Don't worry, I'll be back for when you come to Trefin

Was a bit stunned tonight when I logged on here to have a PM from someone who works for Rowing & Regatta magazine, saying that my forum messages had been picked up by their press cuttings agency, and would I write a small piece for the May magazine!! Having a think about it... (They'll read this now won't they ).

Off to bed - to dream of what I wonder....

Do they pay enough to help your costs along?
