As the snowflakes gently fluttered around the ancient oak tree on the village green, a handful of Grapes stood around admiring the rapidly forming winter scene .
Yes, after all the rain and wind of the previous weeks this was a very welcome change.

It really did begin to feel as though the festive season was just around the corner.

"Who is going to be helping with putting up the village tree and festive lights this year? Maybe we could get a smaller one for the Gardeners Rest at the same time? Are the old lights beyond fixing?" (the new LED ones were so dependable but took away part of the traditional frustration of untangling the garland and checking one bulb at a time.)

Rary and VC could be heard discussing the pros and cons of clipping real candles onto the festive tree...ah...childhood memories eh?............

Burnie wandered over from the Gardeners Rest with a tray of butties..
Bacon and egg, sausage and egg and drippy egg and several large mugs of tea.
"Here - get your nashers into these" he said handing them to his friends.....

SP was heard grumbling it’s not even bl**dy December and they’re getting all festive & jingley!
Then the grumbling stopped because the most unbelievable thing happened......

...she had bitten into the most delicious sausage butty you could imagine !
Hot, spicy chilli and tomato sauce dribbled down her chin, tingling as it went.....

Red chins and noses, dribbling yellow yolk, blue fingers, white snowflakes, orange and brown leaves crunching underfoot...suddenly the green was awash with colours not seen since the summer

One of the sausages fell out of Nicos's butty and before she had a chance to grab it one of VC's puppies had leapt up and caught it mid air. What a gymnastic feat!!!!

              Spotting this....

Probably taught by one of Janies dogs who has a mean manoeuvre in nicking a sausage on a fork whilst jumping over the coffee table. (He is better behaved now, but I wouldn't trust him not to teach a puppy this trick).

Ooooh! I've just made a very yummy cream sponge that we could have for afters.

Can I have brown sauce in my butty please, not keen on ketchup.

Right, what needs doing and what can I do to help?

Well...we do need help tomorrow Janie choosing the 2 trees.
Are you any good at driving a tractor...or better still a logging pony?

(Nicos has to go away for the weekend and has full trust in the Grapes...having left the key to the GR under the doormat.(Burnie clearly having found it earlier!)

                    So...it's a free for all....

Nicos smiled to herself knowing the GR and village green will be in safe hands until her return.
However...there was clearly the concern of who, what, why and when.....

I thought I would drop in and buy a drink for everyone but unfortunately I will have to sit here and have a nice contemplative drink by my self, though it will nice to sit by the fire and dream of what I will be growing next year, of course being such a skilled gardener everything will be perfect.

So rary sat in front of the fire place and thought,,,,,, when will a wuman come in here and light this fire fur me
