  • A-furtling we will go

I decided to have a rummage around the potato bags to see how they were coming along (as you do) and saw a potato flower for the very first time. I was surprised at how beautiful they are!

What has caught you by surprise by not being what you expected?

Oh, and I accidentally picked this years first spud

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

My Bijou dwarf sweet peas the pack says 12 to 18 inch tall, they're already at 4 ft so I've had to add taller canes.
They smell ever so nice so I've forgiven them

My autumn broccoli 'fruited/blossomed' last week. Think autumn was a misnomer .

Are potato flowers edible? A friend just asked and I have no idea, never thought of it before.

Kitty they're poisonous and so are the little 'fruits' that come after them.

I believe all the above ground bits of a potato plant are poisonous - leaves, flowers, fruits - don't eat them!!

Cheers guys. That was rattling around in the back of my mind but I wasn't sure.

The thing that has surprised me is the spaghetti squash plant I stuck outside fairly early as it was growing like triffid inside is going nuts. 4.5ft tall and going strong. Loads of flowers and the first of the squash are growing well.
