  • Earth Hour 2010

Some people may have taken part in this over the last few years. This year's date to turn lights off for an hour is 27th March at 830pm.

Just remember that if you have energy saving bulbs - turning them off can reduce their lifespan considerably. In short, if you're going to turn all your lights off for earth hour and some or all of them are energy savers - don't turn them on after 8:15pm.
Daft, poisonous, migraine inducing, mercury-filled, rubbish light making, expensive monstrosities.

Nice idea, I suppose... if you're into that sort of thing. Don't think I'll bother though. I only tend to have one light on at a time anyway and I ain't exactly convinced there's a need either.

I think it is a great idea to raise awareness of how much energy is often wasted, in particular a lot of office buildings keeping lights on when nobody there, or the couple who lived opposite us at our previous address, who had every light on whenever they were home. I know it's only a small thing in the big scheme of things but at least its something

Elsie - that kind of thing drives me nuts and I really DON'T think it's changing the climate (I think it changes on its own) - it's so incredibly wasteful (and in terms of businesses - makes their product more expensive).

So am I! I, too, believe that the change in the temperature of this planet is a natural phenomenon. It has happened before, and there is scientific proof. It will happen again. I don't believe that turning off a few light-bulbs will change it. However, I DO believe we should all make the effort to reduce our consumption of finite reserves.

I never said I thought it was changing the climate, I am talking about the waste of resources and energy that goes on every day.

Good thing to do to help make people aware of how wasteful we have become as a whole.
A lot of individuals are very careful, but lots just dont care, and it will be the careful ones who participate; the ones that dont care will ... well.... not care!

have to try some of the recipes from the wartime kitchen and garden programme I have been watching this week. Although being a veggie, I fast forward through some of them!

Just turned off my desk light and unplugged the Lappy. Himself has the TV and one light on.
