  • Don't Forget the Pancakes!

Shrove Tuesday today, and the kids have their Pancake Request Forms in already
The OH is trying to persuade them that savoury pancakes are the way to go, with bacon and cheese, or spicy mince which of course is totally wrong, pancakes should be smothered in golden syrup, or lemon juice and sugar, or bananas and PWs Dulche Leche...

How will you be having yours?

I don't like them, but the kiddies have just had 3 each for breakfast & excess mix is in the fridge ready for when they get home...just a sprinkling of brown sugar with their brekkie ones & if I'm feeling generous they'll get chocolate spread later!(might even chop some chocolate & put in the mix!)
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Oh yum yum!!!( I can't believe I'd not remembered...I even forgot Burns Night- and I even had a Haggis in the freezer esp for it!)

I've got some raspberries lurking in the freezer I think.... Mmmmmm...

I'm just making myself hungry now

It will be sugar and lemon, lime and orange wedges here.

We often have pancakes as I have a bunch of pancake mad menfolk but I usually make American or Dutch style ones. Crepes are only for pancake day!

Another nice idea for pancakes is to stew apples with sultanas (or other fruit) then either A) fill pancake with fruit, serve with cream if preferred. OR B) stack pancakes with a layer of apple between, cover stack with meringue and bung in a hot oven till browned. Result - Pancake Alaska. Nice dessert after a heavy meal.

i bought a crepe pan whilst in France last year so will be giving that an airing tonight.

Kazzi likes either a squeeze of lemon or orange and sugar, I go for either nutella or blueberries in cream.

                  A great reminder Sarah.

I'm quite partial to a good serving of chilli in my pancakes - but tonight I'll be with the standard sugar/lemon combo, and LadyWayne prefers something a little more sickly.

Question is, do you make your own or ready made? Reason I ask is that I saw an advert last night (Betty Crocker I think) where you pour water into the bottle, give it a shake and pour! Water!?

Home made for us. The water thing is coz most of the mixes have dried skimmed milk powder in to make them foolproof

the best pancake mix we ever tried (and with my bunch we have tried a few) was from sweden. I will let you all imagine the scene at the airport when Madmax came home for a weekend with a suitcase full of packets of pancake mix....

He was really glad he had the receipt from the supermarket with him!

Definately make.I've never really understood the need for ready made ones, mixing flour egg & milk together is hardly rocket science, nor time consuming.
My question:~do you toss or cheat???
I cheated this AM as the kiddies weren't watching, but I'm guessing I won't get away with it tonight!

We knew it was Pancake day today...so we are having Pizza instead which is a savoury yeasty pancake, minus the eggs, covered in cheese and tomato and a few herbs.
