  • Does your dog like strawbs?

I've heard of lots of people having to protect their strawbs from their dogs as well as the birds. Do yours like them? I offered our two a slice of strawberry each tonight and their faces were a picture of disgust.

My parrots won't eat strawberry flesh, but they will spend hours trying to pick every last seed off them

Never had reason to find out. They do both love wild raspberries, which are just about to appear in the woods around here. Weekend walks will be MUCH slower for a while!

Yup, Bob the dog loves strawbs, but his faves are wild rasps (will pick them off the canes with his teeth himself!) and bambles (wont try to pick these off as he's clever and waits for his stupid Mum to do it for him and get jagged!). Jake's not so keen on fruit, but goes crazy for bits of ice!!!! Parents cat eats any plant they keep in the house, and will rip your hand off for melon! The strangeness of pets......

Our scottish deerhounds used to drool in the summer when it was strawbs and cream for dessert. YES some dogs love strawberries.

The big problem with that was that they were tall enough to drool in your bowl

My old Labrador (sadly dead now) used to kill for courgettes.

Yep, my dog loves Strawberries - i have caught her picking her own from the strawberry tower if i don't keep an eye on her, only the ripe ones too. She also learned last year that she could pick her own runner beans straight from the vine if they were growing low down enough. Also, digging for potatoes is a race against the dog as she firmly believes in finders keepers. She seems to have nominated herself to chief taster in my veg patch!

My dog absolutely loves strawbs and gets under the netting on my strawb barrel and eats the ripe ones only! She also loves wild rasps and brambles and sucks the brambles off with her lips to save getting jagged it is the funniest thing to watch!

Our old boy used to love wild blackberries, our current dog (his daughter) isn't quite as keen, but she does pinch the cucumbers if she can get into the greenhouse. Our other dog we took in as a starving stray and he is just too conservative in his tastes, he only wants meat or eggs or 'proper' dog-food. We've had him for 6 years now and the only unconventional thing he's ever tried is pop-corn.

My old Springer used to steal them, little sod. Hardly got to eat any myself - he always spotted them first!

Taff, my dear old Welsh Border Collie used to help himself to raspberries and would pick himself blackberries. My whippets love carrots and parsnips!
