  • Do you suit your name?

Or does your name suit you? Whichever way round, I have worked with a few people over the years that really did suit their names.

In Chad I had a security guard who was generally detested by everyone. He was sly, untrustworthy, smelly and generally not a nice person to have in a team. He was called Wedgie (nope, he really was) and I think that summed him up quite well.

Amongst the expats where I am now, there are 2 people that suit their names perfectly. Both German, one of them is the dantiest slightest creature you could ever hope to see. If you put a female head on his shoulders it wouldnt look out of place. Translated into English he is called Mr. Petite.
Completely the other end of the scale, there is a guy who must be 6ft 8 (they all do them foreign measurements so I dont know exactly) weighs about 6 stone wringing wet, all arms and legs, who's name translates as Dr Giant Squid. I cant look at him without smiling, he probably thinks I fancy him.

I guess I do suit my very average name. I'm a very average person to my mind.

My real name can be used for both guys and gals- I hope I'm not too masculine - although I've always been 'one of the lads'

I've always wished I could have had a different first name ....though goodness knows what!!

I hate my name- it's so boring.

        Or Janeywoo....

I always get asked what my name is short for (Shelley). Of course, it's not a nickname, it's my actual name.... argh!

My name in italy is a boys name, my cousin had some real fun trying to find me something with it on it that was girly, I ended up with a football keyring....hmm...
My mother calls me various names depending on how happy she is to hear from me, titch means I'm in the good books, kankerine means I've done something a little bit sneaky/naughty [it translates as small cancer], my partner calls me dude.
I dont think anyone actually calls me by my name at all.

I'm cool with Suzie - I have had 'Suzy Quattro' thrown at me over the years, probably cos we have similar hair, blue eyes and both wear leathers

It took me a few years but I think I finally settled into my abreviated name - Liz. I will never be an Elizabeth, it's just not me at all. If my mum calls me it, I run in the opposite direction or slink out of her house.

My name's Islay. No-one here can pronounce it so I answer to pretty much anything and everything! At work we're supposed to say our names when we answer the phone but there's no point
As to whether or not it suits me.......

I don't know if I suit my name; Paula. I don't like it that much, but have got used to it over the years. I prefer my middle name Joanne, even if it is more common - I prefer to think of it as more popular.

People always shorten my name to Paul... at school and even now at work I get emails with the "a" missed off - how difficult is it?!
