I got up too late I think but I know what you mean. There nothing quite like sitting outside with a cuppa listening to the sound of nature just as the sun is coming up.

We've been getting the chorus here for about a week now. Fantastic isn't it? One of life's great pleasures - think of all those late nighters who never hear it....

On a slightly different note, have you seen the Venus/Moon/Jupiter alignment? Best seen at dusk when the sky is still blue (not black) and available tonight for (I believe) the last time. I get one all night thanks to the flocks of birds resting overnight in the trees before they flock like hell, and then poo all over my window.

If you listen very carefully, you can hear mine singing now - blessed wood pigeon is cooing as well. I can do without him.

Aye, I was listening to it a couple of mornings ago as I loaded the car up for another day's fun - and heard some birds that I'd not heard here before. Which probably means I'm getting countryfied. #scarey

I'm jealous. I'm always awake really early, this morning treated myself to a cup of tea in bed, but I haven't heard a chorus yet. Probably because we're inner city so the birds prefer countryside.

I can still hear them ringing in my ears. Have seen a flurry of activity all over the garden recently and buzzards riding the thermals up here.

As for the Jupiter/moon/Venus alignment, Mr VVG and I have been checking it out most nights. It's been clear up here and beautiful at night. We've been talking about popping dormer windows in the loft, for a telescope.

I said that to OH about 20 years ago. Still an option. He just needs a comet up his a*s.

I get up too early. I usually begin to hear it mid March when it's getting light at 4am

That's the thing I hate about double glazing too. It keeps the warmth in, but it doesn't half shut out the sounds of the birds. I'm always amazed when I open a window or door to hear what I thought was a silent garden absolutely atwitter with birdsong.

^^^ I think after a sleepless night most of us feel a bit disgruntled. I used to live in a flat on the seafront and the attic/loft space was used by pigeons for roosting. At 4 am it's not the most pleasant sound in the world whereas at 7 am it sounds quite nice.

It makes getting up that bit early a pure pleasure, still a few weeks early in this neck of the woods
