I live just down the road from Ashton and the trees round here have been absolutely hammered by these problems.

I have no idea if we can go conkering this year, every tree I've seen has been at least half dead.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Our trees have been the same - however they have a huge crop of 'conkers' this year!!

All the trees in this area seem to have a lot of whatever the leaf-parasite is, but it doesn't appear to have made much difference to the crop....

I was walking through our local park the other day & there were loads of conkers on the ground where the kids had been knocking them out of the trees, a lot of them had just been left so maybe they were too small for them. I picked one up & brought it home, they're such lovely smooth polished objects!

As PW would say - ooh shiny!

All the trees round here have the disease - but there are conkers as well.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

My grandson has been bringing them home for a couple of weeks. There's a conker tree near his school.

How can you keep conkers looking as if they have just been picked? they are so beautiful and very tactile but quickly dry out and go dull when brought inside..... I would love to save a couple to add to my desk collection....
currently two perfect pine cones decorate my desk, they must think me bonkers! yay bonkers for conkers....that will be me then

Could you rub olive oil into them? Or moisturiser? Or varnish them?

I luuuuuurve Conkers, and Marbles, and Yin Yang Beans - sooooooo tactile!!!!!

Better than the council (some years ago now) who had 4 trees cut down to avoid children getting hurt, but why can't they just deal with the yobs who throw massive lumps of wood up into the trees?
