  • Computer help please!!!

    Hi,

Any of you out there computer bods?

OK, here is my problem. I have a laptop which was given to me when I left my last company which had admin passwords to allow for updating software etc. The laptop was networked with other machine's etc.

When I log with my user name/password I do not have privilages to do certain things.

I do have the admin user name/password but when I log in under that it takes me to another desk top and I can see what I need.

I have tried going to the control panel and giving my user name access but it has not worked.

If under the admin screen I remove admin as a user will this give me full access or lock me out completley.

Sorry if this is long winded, just trying to give as much info as I can.

    Thanks, Mandy

    Either:
Change your existing account to an Admin type.
    or
Create a new account for yourself with admin rights.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

I don't know your answer (sorry) but was interested to know what couldn't be done by an admin account, are there different types of admin? (Sorry for being nosey I'm a bit bored - perhaps I should nip into the Gardeners Rest for a swift one, but I'm a bit brassic!?)

                  Hi Snadger,

I know the password, lets me in etc just does not seem to let me access downloads etc?

Manda, when you work for a company they soetime put retrictions on what you can change on your puter i.e. you can only use company spftware etc.

I am now away from the company although they let me keep the laptop and I need to update security software etc and you need admin privalliges for that.

I off to the pub myself now!

I understand what you're saying but I thought you said you'd logged in as admin?

Hmm, could be a network connection problem? How are you connecting to the Internet from it? Maybe you need a new ISP/connection for it?

As far as I can understand, passwords are imbedded into Windoze and cannot be changed or deleted without knowing the password. If a higher level admin has locked you (a user with fewer rights) out of certain areas, then you require the higher level password. The larger the company, usually the more levels of security exist, so the password with admin rights one up from yours still may not get you in. It may be easier to just reload Windoze.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

I'd agree with "terrier". If you have the media reload windows. You can PM if you have more technical questions...
