  • Bread and brown sugar - help!

Hi clever viners... a question/plea for help!

How can I stop brown sugar going rock solid?
    and
How can I refresh a loaf of bread that has gone rock hard?

Can anyone out there help please.

    Thanks
    HF

Brown Sugar - put in a sealed tupperware [or other] box with a damp teatowel and leave for a day or so.

Bread - the same I believe. Both have lost water. Probably not in the same tupperware box as the bread will end up covered in sugar.

Run bread under cold tap (briefly) pop in oven, eat immediately

Heat the sugar in a 250° F oven until it’s soft and use it right away or it will turn rock-solid again, fast.

Sugar, place in airtight container - I have the same problem as you if I leave it loose in the cupboard!

Bread, sprinkle with water and microwave for 10 seconds. I normally just freeze stale bread and use it for toast, though.

I would grate the bread for crumbs and keep it in the freezer. Can be used from frozen for gratins.

Stale bread (if not too far gone) stick under cold tap and then hot oven for a few minutes, eat hot. OR make into breadcrumbs, OR put out for the birds. OR bread & butter pudding, summer pudding.

Sugar- keep in air tight container.
