  • Body clock gone again!!

    GRrrrrrrrr

Did a nightshift on Saturday, only get to do about one one a month, a: because I work part time and b: because about half the carers on my ward only do nights and I don't get much opportunity for them.

I don't sleep well before a night, and as I only do one, don't sleep - if I do, not well - afterwards.
Sat here, not even feeling tired now, but must get up in the morning to take pickle to school.

Any tips to help me get off to re-regulate my internal clock? my usual tried and tested methods not working.

    Ta

Bit of 4"x2" to the back of the head?
Seriously, Dr Stuarts teas, one called Back to Bedfordshire, or something like that, sends my OH (a world class insommniac) off to sleep 8 times out of 10.

Are they available in supermarkets? Do like herbal teas, OH seriously unimpressed, says they look like urine samples!!

as a serial insomniac, partly caused by years of split shifts, i cant help.

only cure that works for me is pulling an allnighter when it gets really bad, then going to bed at about 10 the next night.

a bottle of vodka can work on occasion.( that may actually just be wishful thinking)

Valerian tea - Herbal Teas made with Active Botanicals from Dr Stuarts - Functional Teas - Extraordinarily Good Teas

Some supermarkets have them, some Health Food shops. I can't bear them myself

Absolutely cannot drink voddy. Got totally, nastily ratarsed on it some years back and have been unable to stomach it since. Didn't stomach it all that well that night either.......

well whats your fave tipple|? hot toddies are great in this weather, rum is better than whisky, mulled wine rocks and is great when you have a head cold.

i tend to stay up all night when i'm totally exhausted ....... most nights i get 3-4 hours ....... it's annoying when i really need 12 ....... but if i stay up all night, the next night as long as nothing wakes me i can usually manage 12-14 ..... but then can't sleep the next night ....... can't win can you

Arrgh - it always happens to me when I really need to go to bed! When I eventually do drop off, I get sleep paralysis. I'd love to hear of any pill, chemical or herbal that doesn't make you feel like a mong brain in the morning.

another vote here for the sleepy tea, it does work but tastes vile. I have to let it cool, then neck it in a one-er. It's in supermarkets and Holl@nd and B@rrett.

(no hangover the next day like with sleeping pills)

I find the occasional use of Nytol ( but the antihistamine one - not the herbal one) works.
Only had one decent nights sleep in the past 3 months!

Herbal teas certainly help - as does a hot water bottle.

                      Snoring OH doesn't though!

Reading fills my time and empties my mind and when I feel the book drooping I know it's time to turn out the light and quietly snuggle down.

Used to go on the computer in UK cos the study was warm and in the room next to the bedroom. Here it's across the house and a thermal underwear trek!!!

Ahem. 'A right good seeing to' usually does it for me. Have a word with the OH.

Like Bride I am a terrible sleeper, caused by years of shift working and constantly changing time zones.
Except the herbal tea approach which is clearly wrong, a mixture of all of the above works for me. I try and stay up as late as I can, reading often helps as it tires my eyes (god I'm old), a few glasses of Pineau des Charentes or other such tipple helps, and then, if all else fails and a trip to the local blind school dance has been a success, Zazen's approach finishes it off. For me anyway!!
