  • Big cats (the very big type)

I saw one last year, a big black one and this morning saw what I think may be tracks. I need to ask someone a question.
Does anyone know of anyone or a website that knows about these things and keeps up to date?
All of the websites I can find are way out of date.

Or out of interest, has anyone else seen one?

        WOW !!!!
        I found this...

the Big Cat Society claims there are up to 70 roaming around the countryside.

        Here's their site!

British Big Cats - British Big Cats Society, Prove and Protect, Big Cat Sightings, Official Website
"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Theres meant to be loads of big cats roaming the countryside, it happened because of the dangerous wild animal act in 1976, which meant people with big cats had to keep them in secrue enclosures and had to pay extra money to keep them and so instead let them go. Now we have hundreds of big cats out in the wild of the UK!

Sorry I can't do a link, but if you go into The Evening Star(Ipswich) website there's a few reportings of sightings & also a couple that found tracks in their garden....there's a pic of the footprint...maybe you could compare?
I've never seen any myself but think it's totally credible that there are some lurking around!!!...that said I think they'd be far too shy/elusive to cause any threat to us.
Let us know what you find out....I think it's really interesting.

I would certainly think it feasable that there are big cats in the UK countryside, it stands to reason, things escape, the wild animal act etc. Whether there would ever be enough to sustain a breeding population is the question though??
It would need at least two, male and female, to have been released within a reasonable distance of each other, both of breeding age, and to be undisturbed for long enough to live, find each other and breed.
Not at all saying its impossible, but I think improbable. I would absolutely delighted to eat my words though, as it would be fantastic to think we had wild big cats in the UK.

Well where I am, I have found out that the first sighting of a big black cat here was in 1994 and that was about 1 mile from where I am.
I would stake my life on what I saw and the size and strength of it. I could tell the size of it from the deer it was chasing but didn't catch.

The prints I saw this morning were either from a very large dog (but could see no claw marks) or a cat, what seemed to think cat for me is that at one point I found a mark that looked like a tail drag mark.

we saw a big black cat quite a few years ago - SD and I were living in Hampshire at the time and was out for a walk in a lovely wooded area.

We both saw it, it was only approx 50yards from us, we all looked at each other and on it went ....*phew but what a beauty it was
