  • Baby found in playground

BBC NEWS | England | Beds/Bucks/Herts | Abandoned baby 'covered by twigs'

This seems like a miracle to me, with all the cold we've been having. What the 16 year olds were doing in the school playground on Saturday lunchtime is a bit of a puzzle , but thank goodness they were there, and had the sense to get the little one to the hospital in time.
I just pray the mother's OK. If it was her who abandoned the baby she must be very desperate, but I can't help wondering if it was her or a relative. Only 3 hours after the birth, and covering the little girl with twigs in a school playground, it doesn't sound like she was intended to make it. The pink blanket is a puzzle though.

Not sure what kind of mental state you would have to be in to do this. Thank goodness she was found safe and well and the mother can also be traced as she will undoubtedly need medical attention after giving birth and for her mental emotional state.

On a lighter note I did leave my baby in the school playground once and got into the car and swithed on the engine, turned round to talk to him then remembered I'd forgotten him!

Heard this on the radio news earlier. Little Chloe's guardian angel must have been working hard today. I hope they find out who/where the mother is, because she must be in some kind of distress right now, physical and mental My prayers for her.

That's awful & like others my thoughts are with the mum.....having gone through childbirth with plenty of trained medics at hand, the mere thought of going through that without the reassurance from midwife/docs that the pain is normal doesn't bare thinking of.She must be in one desperate state.

Mum has been found. Nipped over to Yahoo to check out freecycle and saw the story that the baby's mum has been found. Going back to read it.

Thank goodness she's come forward, it just makes me want to cry when I think of what she must be going through.
My niece got 'caught out' at 16, and my sister supported her in whatever she wanted to do, They even to the clinic with appointment booked and everything, when my niece suddenly said to her mother that she couldn't go through with it. My sister was over the moon to find out she would be a granny after all. I remember all the anguish at the time though (19 years ago), and that was with family support.
I'm feeling very weepy over this, especially compared with the excitement that some of our grapes are feeling at the moment, with new life arriving soon.

This is a very sad story as is any when a child is born to a mum usually a young girl who for some reason cannot tell her parents, is too frightened to get help. When I had one of my sons in hospital the nurses came in amd told us a young girl was being brought in with her baby, she had gone into the bathroom and that was the first her parents knew she was having a baby they were very shocked that their daughter couldnt talk to them.
When I was pregnant with my first son I had been married for 5 years was 24 years old and I found it very hard to tell my mum took me ages and when I did I just burst into tears. My mum was a very loving mum but we didnt talk about girl things, maybe because she was an older mum when she had me in the 50's,and in the 60's early 70's you didnt, something I have made sure I have done with my own daughter. I hope this little one will be ok and her mum too.

I work in an area where there is a high percentage of very young mums and dads, they are just kids themselves very often and need lots of tlc and help themselves as they often do not have support at home. This mum must have been so terrified that anyone would find out about her baby that she wanted to hide the birth as she may have also hidden her pregnancy. She will now get the help both she and her baby need and i am sure we are not the only ones thinking of her at the moment which will help her i am sure.

I said a little prayer for the baby and her mother when I heard about this too...

Looks like there might be a much happier ending than might have been. Mum and baby will get care and support now, but the girl's distress must have been terrible. All very sad but thank goodness they're both getting the help they need now.

Another reminder (for me anyway) to count my blessings...

Poor baby and poor mother, too afraid to tell anyone about her pregnancy. Or maybe she thought if she ignored the problem it would go away!
There are far worse things than becoming pregnant that can happen to a girl and any baby is a gift and a joy.

Whoever the mother is, she will be missing her baby, after carrying her for 9 months, she must be in an awful state, lets hope she has the willpower and strength to be able to tell someone. At least her daughter is well and being cared for. Lets hope this has a very happy ending.

Our prayers are with both mum and baby.xx

This is such a sad story, I'm surprised that this still happens in this day and age, but you have to feel so sorry for them both. I'm pleased the mother has come forward. How desperate do you have to be to carry a baby for nine months, give birth alone, then abandon it? A tragedy for all concerned.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
