  • Asteroid watch

I think I saw one of these asteroids as I was on my way to work at 5am this morning. A ball of bright white light with an orange-red tail crossed the sky low down in front of me extremely fast from east to west as I drove out of the village in pitch darkness.

Wow! what an amazing sight it was!

Well, it seems what I saw was not the asteroid, which in actual fact is just a tiny dot in the night sky in a fairly stable orbit, but a FIREBALL!!!

I sent my observation to the UK fireball observation network, who will analyse it and see if there are other confirmed sightings. They have 4 other pending reports that occured at the same time.

I checked out the pending report page and from the long list, people must be seeing fireballs all the time. Who knew they were so common??

Here's a link to a video glimpse of one at Church Crookham in November last year...

That is awesome! I didn't know about the fireball thing.

I saw Halley's Comet when I was 9 or 10 it was brilliant. The next time it will be visible from uk I'll be 75. If I'm still here I'd like to see it again.

This is the meteor I saw.

I called (screamed) to hubby to come and look and he thought it was an aircraft on fire so that kinda ruined the experience for us as we thought something terrible had happened.

              I love to sky watch.
