  • Anyone on Virgin broadband been upgraded for free yet?

I got an email yesterday from VM saying that they are upgrading us from 2MB to 10MB (for free), wondering if anyone has been upgraded yet?

Thought it had all been done already, or was that the L's and and now they're doing the M's?

      Where's my upgrade?

Oh that's cool, not to long left then. I am quite excited to see what Virgin has to offer in the future, they will also be offering online storage as well, hopefully this will be free!

              p.s. I just saw my subject is missing a "U".... my U doesn't also work correctly .

I trust Branson's broadband is a bit faster than his trains. Rumour has it that they're called 'Virgin' because they act as though they've never done it before.

I'll stand corrected on this - but I thought any upgrade of speed/GB downloads etc was dependant on the abilities of the line available.

My service is for 'up to' 8MB speed but averages 4-5+ in my area due to BT lines which provide the service )although not with BT thank heavens!).

May be a 'generous' offer which they kinda 'know' can't be fulfilled - but not their fault!?

Virgin can provide internet connection via fibre optic cables, not via copper cables of telephone lines. Fibre optic cabling allows speeds up to 50MB/s and more. This is why I'm with Virgin (formerly ntl and before that Cabletel who originally had the foresight to lay the fibre optics back in the 80s). BT now want to lay their own fibre optics as this is clearly the way forward and current copper cables won't be up to the increasing need for higher speeds.

It sounds as if you aren't connected to the fibre optic system, but you can easily check with Virgin media via their website if you can be connected up.
