  • Anyone know anything about Thrombofillia? - incl brill Pea n Pod update

I have had some brill news but lets get the dodgy news over with first.

I dont want any scare stories but I am hoping that one of you will know a little about thrombofillia or Lupus anti co-anticoagulant. I need some words of comfort really so I dont panic, as I shouldnt of course be stressed at the mo.

    During the antenatal clinic yesterday, the registrar (my wonderful consultant is on holiday for a month - only just gone ) said that she would be refering me to a haematologist as my bloods taken in February (WHY bring this up now I will never know!) indicated I may be at risk of this condition. I asked her to write the name down but she said she didnt want me to panic (so it cant be serious?) but as it was in my notes anyway I did a search today as I had no idea really what she was going on about. Here are the first two links I found;

Thrombophilia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lupus anticoagulant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have now decided NOT to go any further into this as it did worry me and since I looked at this I have found myself dwelling on the "what ifs" but it would be wonderful if anyone could put my mind at rest? If its bad news then just dont tell me ok - if I get no replies I shall just assume none of you know anything.

Righto - got that off my chest!

I am pleased to report that following the consultants request that the next scan be done a little earlier as she was concerned they had small bellys which could indicate a failing placenta (what else eh! ) they are back on track on the growth scale. They now weigh 3lb 10oz and 3lb 12 oz which means they have put on 50% of their weight 2 1/2 weeks ago since then! I am greatly reassured by this and starting to get (if its at all possible) more and more excited!

Well I read/looked at the Wiki pages and I'm sure I know nothing about anything!! I think if they were really concerned about something they would have referred you before now - like in February!!

But brilliant news about Pea and Pod. With my brand new knowledge of twins (DD's are boys by the way) what I do know now is that it's really good that they're growing at the same rate - so well done that yummy mummy! (Wish there had been yummy mummy's when I was waddling around like a whale - it would have made me feel so much better!).

Tammy Love...the only advice I can offer is stop looking at Wiki...tis not your friend!!!!
I don't understand why it was brought up yesterday, but they are probably just taking every precaution! She says your bloods showed you"may" have it & from what I could gather the not so nice bits that have obviously got you worried are worst case scenario...probably affecting people that have the condition but don't know & are therefore not being treated/observed.
I also agree with Comfreyfan,if it was something to be worrying about they wouldn't have waited seven months to be referrin g you!
I know it's not easy...and you know I'm a fine one to talk!...but try not to worry! If you need a chinwag you know my number.
Sounds like everything is going to plan with Pea & Pod,you've got your little ones back, try to get rid of negatives about remote what might be's & relax!....or else!!!

I was wondering where you'd got to!

Like the others have said, if your regular 'bod' was concerned, I'm sure you'd have heard about it sooner. New/temporary 'bod' may be over reacting as you are 'new' to them - does that make sense?

Just chill, avoid reading scare-mongering stuff on t'internet, and grow dem babies!

              Glad they're doing well!

If they were/are concerned about it, they could/will put you on heparin or low dose aspirin, both ok in pregnancy. As long as they're aware of it, they'll be monitoring you and Pea and Pod, so try not to worry yourself honey.

Great news about their growth spurt, I think they're just getting into the swing early of having a massive growth spurt in the summer holidays...

glad to hear from you as OH asked me how you're doing about an hour ago. She sends her best wishes and thoughts.

Glad to hear they're growing so nicely all the best!

Hi Tammy - I was going to PM you today . I wouldnt worry about what the doctor said - if it was anything to be worried about they would have told you earlier, and they also said "may be". I had a friend who had lupus when she was pregnant, (sorry I cant remember the details) but she and the baby were fine. Try not to worry, and take it easy. Well done Pea and Pod on putting on weight! Not long to go now sweetheart!

It's natural to worry during pregnancy I guess - even worser when it's you're first, but I have much faith in the medical peoples and I'm positive that everything will be fine.

P&P are doing well by the sounds of it and will soon be beautiful purple podded (I predicted one of each) Peas.

                      How very exciting!!!

Have to agree Wiki is not your friend. Have you heard of the saying "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing", well Wiki only supplies you enough info to start scaring yourself witless. KEEP AWAY from Wiki. I'm very pleased to hear that pea and pod are happily growing and growing.

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks for the call this am Di.

I feel so much happier this am - was very tired last night and I am an emotional person when I am not so when I am, I am an emotional wreck! I now feel I have it in alot better perspective and will just have to accept it as another little POTENTIAL hiccup which is known about and so can be treated as and when required.

Even though I am all too aware that there are alot more "miraculous" babies being born and even more people who never get a single chance to become a parent, I still feel that these babies really are my miracle. When I think about what I have gone through and the odds I worked against to get even this far, I consider myself so very very lucky. I am so so looking forward to meeting these two very special little beings, I love them to the moon and back already and I will will be shouting to the world in celebration when they are born and in my arms, safe, loved and wanted so very much.

Thanks again for all your support guys. I knew I had come to the right place, even though I feel a bit of a hypocrite being on here at the mo, as all I can comment on, gardening related, is how much bigger the weeds, marrows (or are they perhaps really courgettes ) and cabbage white caterpillers are getting!!!!

Too bladdy right an all! Make sure you let us know before anyone else - don't worry about aunts and uncles etc, get posting on here first! I reckon they'll give you an internerd connection in the labour ward.

Don't worry about non-gardening posts. I don't read the chicken ones.

Daft b*gger! I've not been a 'proper' gardener for nearly 9 months I'd have been in a mental ward if it wasn't for the Vine, and the lovely Grapes
