You are not that far from Carcasone which is in itself a fabulous town, old and new. The surrounding areas are beautiful with lots of things to do, from rafting on the river to swimming in the sea. there are Cathar Chateau (mainly ruins), wineries and markets all over. In the last week of August Carcassone has a Spanish week with a celebration of all things Catelan / Spanish from dancing to bull fighting, music to food.
We stay in the Pyrennes about an hour away and are already looking forward to August when we go again. If you are driving, pm me and I will give you the route we go, tis the quickest by far with lots of stop off opportunities. -
Is it this place? If so its in the Gard between Montpelier and Nimes.

Further south than us , don't know it very well ..have been to Carcasson etc but if you do go its possible you will drive right past us if you come down the A20....wave or stop for a cuppaComment

And depending on which route you take, could be close to us too.
Love that area - my French ancestors come from Nimes so I'm a bit biased. It's also one of the old Huguenot strongholds so lots of other history down that way, beautiful area, if I didn't live here, would be sorely tempted.TonyF, Dordogne 24220Comment

If we do decide to go, I just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about it; since we've never been before!
I doubt we'll be driving though, Mr OWG's foot is too painful to do that kind of drive and he won't let me drive abroad
We can get a couple of flights to Carcassone for about £60 each, which isn't bad...
Just got to persuade Mr OWG that we need a week in France now!!Comment
