  • Any young 'uns?

Would be a shame if this was allowed to finish, sadly I'm both in the wrong county and in the wrong age group too lol.

    It is getting more common.

There was no Aberchirder Flower Show this year. Similar problem.

I'm only 4 hrs from Perth and 7 hrs from Aberchirder (North East - Scotland)

Every year sees more and more local gardening clubs bite the dust and all for the very same reason.

What a shame! Just too far away. It doesn’t surprise me I’m the only one amongst my friends that grows anything a couple of my friends husbands have chillis in there windowsills and that’s as close as it gets!

could someone tell me how to access the story as all I get is something about the RHS, and to be honest I am not a big fan of that organisation which I think contributes to some of the apathy towards gardening and gardening shows
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers

How young do you have to be to be a young 'un? Just under 70?

Finally got into the report, and understand the problems that they are facing, the local flower shows in this area are maintained by older folks, and though it would be good to see some younger people participating in the running of them, we just have to accept that the majority of young people (under fifty) are not interested in helping run community based organisations, personally I think in some cases they don't take part due to the pressures of having to do everything correctly out of the fear that a mistake in their part may lead to a claim against them, though I know that the majority of these public bodies take out insurance against such things not everyone is aware of that, an other thing I note is that the committee are all women, has this just happened or was it a women only organisation
Must add when I say young people being people under fifty if I was VCs age people considered young would multiply considerably
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

You've got the wrong RHS - that's what happens when you're old apparently.

"The future of one of Britain’s oldest gardening groups in is jeopardy.

The Royal Horticultural Society of Perthshire has been around for more than 200 years, but leaders have warned it may be forced to disband if more people do not join in the coming months.

The group is behind a programme of activities to promote the growing of flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables, but despite high attendances at its twice-yearly shows, membership numbers are dwindling.

The Perth society was one of the first of its kind in the UK, formed in 1806.

Chairwoman Gillian Sharp said: “I am very concerned about the future of the society now.

“We have just under 100 members but around 90% of them are over 60 and around 80% are over 70, which is not sustainable.”

The society needs help with secretarial duties, as well as physical work such as setting up displays for shows.

Anyone interested in getting involved can find out more on the society’s website, www.rhsofperthshire.co.uk, or by emailing rhsofperthshire@gmail.com."

That doesn't exclude many people, does it?
