  • Another reason why I don't really like living in the UK...

My ice skates are on their last legs. I mean, it's a wonder they haven't broken my ankles - every part of them has gone - eyelets gone (I have to tape the skates to my feet as laces are not much use), tongues pulled off, ankle support mesh freyed (sp?) off, underneath the boot cracked, blades chipped, runners cracked etc.. Shop I Decided to treat myself to some new ones - decent ones this time (despite being told my last ones were "decent".

Bit ott for my needs, but I've looked here locally.. pretty expensive. No thanks.

My wife has a cousin (or some sort of thing like that?) in Canada.. working it out (shes coming over soon) - they're turning in at less than half price + their whats called 'pro stock' too (what pro's use - slightly different to normal stock - not that it makes any difference to the skate).

I paid pretty much the same price for my skates now, as these new ones are.. but my current ones are rubbish in comparison *why* is there that such of a difference? Same as where I grew up - the price of petrol worked out at 16p/l (albeit it is an oil rich place) - I hate the price of stuff over here.

I suspect it's because more people skate in Canada but, it is annoying.

My thought too. Mind you, you could move to Canada. Just think of the money you would be saving. On the other hand, please don't go. I will pay to get your boots replaced if you will demonstrate your skills to me when our lake gets frozen over.

I'm sure you said taxis. They'll be expensive too - especially after 12.

Well, we surf too.. that was one reaon (I grew up living practically on the beach - that's another). I also love winter sports, and we both really like snow boarding too.

One place we'd really love to uproot and move to is Hawaii... but the old greencard thing is an issue (unless we win the lotto like!!)

so yeah, currently stuck in lovely wales for the time being!!

growing up in the states, literally across a rural road from a beach, i miss a lot of what i did there too, but the trick is to explore and enjoy the new things you can do here- is there nowhere to surf in wales, and surely they get snow in winter?

                              Swings `n roundabouts?
I`d love to move to Wales but our house wouldn`t fetch enough to buy what we`d want to move to.
