  • An annoying little job done

Some of you know I am in the midst of an epic decorating fest encompasing the hall, stairs and landing of my pad.

Some of you will also know (previous thread) how annoying it is that one job leads to another.

Well, one of those jobs is actually one that has been lurking around for 6 years. My bedroom door would not close all of the way as it sticks at the top, just a tad, but enough to keep the door that little bit open so that when I sanded the woodwork last week the whole room was covered in dust, and I mean covered.

Well today, tis cured. I needed to sand some more so before hand I got out my trusty plane and lovingly pared down the door to a snug fit. Now I can sand and NOT wake up looking like a ghost the next morning.

What annoying little jobs do you have about the home?

        Thanks for that.

We have a door on the airing cupboard which the gas man took off last summer to get to the boiler and when he put it back, it doesn't close. It's been annoying me ever since, but I really can't be bothered to take it off and adjust it.

Ditto our shed door - you have to really push hard and move the bolt up and down to get it closed...can't be bothered to take it off and redrill it properly [it means taking the cordless drill to the lottie, which means FINDING AND CHARGING the drill up.

And I'm waiting for the builder to come and finish knocking the wall down - SICK OF SEEING CONCRETE BLOCKS OUTSIDE THE WINDOW.

        phew

Thanks for the opening to rant there.

Th one that's annoying me is the ALMOST fnished kitchen. OH is waiting for a new special saw blade to arrive to neatly cut the cornincing then that's done.

But when he tiled the splashback, cos the paining had already been done he masked up the wall with LOW TACK tape and when he pulled it off the paint came off and some of the new plaster.

He has filled it and it's been looking at me unsanded for about 3 weeks. Annoying me everytime I cook. Whenever he wants to do it I am usually doing some cooking / baking etc and can't cos it might get in the food!

It's on the list.... as we say. It's a Long List!

Glad you got your door sorted PW

Lounge windows never painted or the door from 12 years ago. Fan in windowless bathroom doesnt work. I could go on and on and on and.............

This may not appear to be a little job but compaired to some of the work I have done in the rest of the house this is home run!

Since September last year, I have slowly been doing up my whole house, top to bottom. The last room to decorate is my bedroom, It needs the wall paper striping, filling in sanding down, painting, the whole works! Thing is I cant get motivated since I stoped for christmas

Long story, but due to a few reasons new carpets being fitted all round house this weekend, can't put it off any longer! I need to beg the carpet men not to glue the carpet down in there. That way when Im ready I can lift the carpet and do the painting properly and let it dry properly b4 I put the carpet back! **Glue to fit a carpet ** This is all new to me; what ever happened to carpet grips around the edge of the room I got some carpet grips from B&Q for the other bedroom back in June!!

                    • Replace the bulb in the security light at the side of the house
                    • Work out what the switch is for in our bedroom next to the en-suite door
                    • Figure out how to get the security light working at the back of the house
                    • Replace the "glued on" door bar between the utility room and study
                    • Paint the internal glass doors white rather than the awful mahogany the previous owner had it
                    • Re-stick the net curtain track for the thousandth time
                    • Get the draughty double glazing replaced
                    • Decorate our bedroom
                    • Re-decorate the lounge
                    • Change the fuse/bulbs in the kitchen hood
                    • Fit an extractor to the kithchen wall
                    • Fit extractors in the bathrooms
                    • Get cavity wall insulation
                    • Re-insulate the lofts (two due to the extension)
                    • Fix one of the downlighters in the study
                    • Get the leaves out of the porch guttering
                    • Change the filter on the fridge water dispenser

                    I'm sure there's something else...

Perhaps these two jobs are linked.... and you've not noticed due to a blown lamp in the back security light?

well that's your To-Do List, HeyWayne, just start at the top and you'll have 'em all finished by TwentyFifty no problem.... I find the To-Do List really useful, put the job on the List and that's it done, well more or less. I also have a Garden To-Do List which paints the picture of a quite brilliant garden - when awful reality raises it's head i just come in for a cuppa and read The List - "oh yeah, I'm gonna do that! - and the world seems alright again.... b.

Already tried that. The switch has no power to it at all, and because the wires go into the wall by the security light and doesn't appear anywhere obvious...

Had a friend round who knows a bit about electrickery and even he couldn't figure it out.

                          Well spotted though.

The toilet macerator has a mind of its own and sometimes goes on strike.
The floor by the front door is spongy.
                            The front door leaks.
The back door only shuts properly if you kick it.
There are NO windowsills at all in the place (propagators/seedlings???).
The back door step is a pallet.
Most of the windows don't close properly.
The lounge ceiling is full of holes from routing cables.
                            It's cold.
                            It's damp.
                            It's tiny.

                            It's a shed!

The kitchen light switch needs fitting properly it isn't recessed.
I have only managed to paint half the spindles on the stairs so they are two different colours.
The whole of the back bedroom, it is bare plaster no carpet.
The utility room cold water tap is stuck.
                              The bathroom floor needs replacing.
The seal on the woodburner is shot, have seal no adhesive!
Front room light has stopped working.
Bulb needs replacing in porch light.
And so it goes on and on!!
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown
