  • Am I mean?

I received an email this morning (from a very good friend), it was one of those 'you must send it on' emails which I hate hate hate so much

    It contained this rubbish:

An interesting fact about October 2010:

"this October has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays, all in one
month! It happens once in 823 years. These are called money bags.
Pass them to 8 good people and money will appear in 4 days. Based on
Chinese Feng Shui. Whoever stops this will experience none."
    Interesting.....got nothing to lose..........................

The email had been sent to several people throughout the chain and they were still showing in the email, I didn't know any of them (apart from my friend) so I sent it back to them all saying:

As I really dislike this sort of email I thought I would send it back to whence it came – hope you all get your dosh, if you do – enjoy it
    I’m poor but happy

Was that mean to do that?
    I feel mean now

To answer your question, Nope, you're definitely NOT mean x

I too hate these emails and I very rarely send them on unless they are specific to ONE of my friends.

        I love this one though:-

        Chain Letter Type 1:
        (scroll down)
        Make a wish!!!
Really, go on and make one!!
Oh please, that person will never go out with you!!!
        Wish something else!!!
        Not that, you pervert!!
Is your finger getting tired yet?
        STOP!!
Wasn't that fun? Hope you made a great wish.
Now, to make you feel guilty, here's what I'll do. First of all, if you don't send this to 5096 people in the next 5 seconds, you will be raped by a mad dwarf and thrown off a high building into a pile of manure. It's true! Because, THIS letter isn't like all of those fake ones, THIS one is TRUE!! Really!!! Here's how it goes:
*Send this to 1 person: One person will be pi§§ed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter.
*Send this to 2-5 people: 2-5 people will be pi§§ed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter.
*Send this to 5-10 people: 5-10 people will be pi§§ed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter, and may form a plot on your life.
*Send this to 10-20 people: 10-20 people will be pi§§ed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter and will napalm your house. Thanks!!!! Good Luck!!!

I don't pass them on either, I cultivate an active DELETE button. Never thought of sending them back though! Genius!

Being a paranoid sort of person......

and hating that sort of message......

I just ignore them in case they contain a link to a virus or something

...( can they contain a virus??..I've no idea - but it'd certainly be one way of passing one round)

I think you're fine, not mean.

It's been years since I've been sent anything like that (my friends know better to be honest); but I used to ignore them. I wouldn't dream of sending them on to anyone.

I suppose the 'good news' ones are more palatable than the dreadful 'you'll be cursed ones'; but it's all a load of bobbins.

I consider them a virus in their own right Nicos - not least because they take up your time to read an email from a trusted source to find something that can cause some to worry if they don't take action

More evidence that allotment waiting lists are REALLY getting out of hand. Some people will try anything.

                        No, you're not mean.

Back in 2004 I received an e-mail from an acquaintance who kept circulating these kinds of things and never used BCC, so you could always see the e-mail addresses of everyone he sent it to, the height of bad etiquette in my book. This one was a link to some test and the title was "My score was 49" so I "accidentally" replied to everyone saying that when I received an e-mail from him saying his score was 49 I thought it must be an IQ test, he was not best pleased, but I received several messages of support

                            Nice one HotStuff!

I delete them too. I have two specific friends who send them, and I have given neither of them my current email address, so I only find them occasionally, when I check the old one.

I have two friends who send mobile text messages of the same sort. I delete those too.

Stop sending them. Get a life!

I always delete them too, never thought of sending them back to everyone on the list, that always annoys me too- not removing all the previous senders etc.
