Dont give me such bad news HW. I was coming to splash a bit of cash on some decent 3/4 lengths when back in the sceptered isle, as French ones just dont coupe le moutarde for me.
Woe is me, what on earth will I wear??

Awlright ladies! Wind 'em in, I ent thrown them out!

If I were a master seamstress I'd of probably mended them by now - but it's the zip bit that's broken, not the teeth bit, and I'm no master seamstress.

My point really was that at some point I will eventually have to reside them to the great charity shop in the sky - they will wear out, or tear or some such other fate.

I just wish I'd bought more pairs at the time.

Thing about buying more of them at the time,

We grow, no longer upwards in your case I would suggest, but certainly outwards.
So I go to get my "new" 3/4 lengths after my other ones had finally worn out, only to find they dont fit.

Try charity shops Wayne, that's where my SIL gets all his from, or what about cutting off your old wide leg jeans?

Indeed - and you may find a replacement in a charity shop. In the meantime, lots of dry cleaners do zip repairs for a small fee.
When I buy things it takes a while for me to work out if they are a hot favourite - by which time they are no longer in the shops!!

A lot of dry cleaners will do minor repairs and/or alterations so you may be able to get the zip fixed for you. You never know, maybe the style you like will come back in next year but I do know what you mean, I have the same problem with jeans

I'm not a fan of cut-offs. Jeans are often too 'heavy' too if that makes sense?

Yeah, hence I threw a few pairs out - which is why this pair are so great, they seem to have stretched a bit with me.

Mother runs a charity shop and she is quite pally with a dry cleaner/laundriette place. Good idea.

I knew these would be my favourites as soon as I unwrapped them.

if the loop bit is still on the zip tie some elastic thread in it and hook it onto the button at the top.

Ok, right, how do I explain this....

The zip bit is made up of three parts. The main zip bit (that the teeth go through and are 'woven' together), then there is the 'toggle' bit - or the bit you hold on to. The the third piece is like a little hasp that clamps onto the main zip bit and hold the toggle bit in place.

With me so far?

The toggle bit also has a little 'tooth' that holds it against the zip. The hasp bit keeps coming off, so that the tooth no longer grips the zip in place (when zipped up) and hence the fly undoes (?).

I think that's it anyways - I could always get the camera out and go all macro with the lense, but then LadyWayne might wonder why I'm taking close up photos of my fly...
