  • 29th February 2012 -extra day!

Just listening to something on the radio - people were nominating what they are hoping to use the extra day for.
My favourite was a lady who was going to stop procrastinating on the 29th and launch her website to support chronic procrastinators!

It really struck a chord with me!

What are you planning to do on the extra day?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Given the question I've just asked about "time" I'll probably be doing bits of first two gardening jobs on my list leaving the other sixteen until 1st March.... But it isn't an "extra" day in the sense of a benefit is it (and if you're paid monthly it's actually a loss!). It should be a holiday, shouldn't it.....

Well, as it's a Wednesday it will be work as usual, so it gets swallowed up and you don't really notice you've had an extra day. Turning it into a bank holiday would be nice, so you could take the day off
if you wanted to, to celebrate the fact that we've caught up (almost) with solar time again.

I'm getting depressed now, nobody planning a big romantic gesture or a once every four years event?
I may try and book the window cleaner

I hope all the workers out there realise that you don't have a day off on Feb 29th, just because its Leap Year. On the contrary, you will work an extra day this month, and, if you are paid monthly, you will not receive any extra salary. That always bugged me - so glad its just another day of idleness for me now!

It really should be made a properly real free day...not a Bank Holiday when shop keepers still work, but a real day of nothingness....sorry any medic people, you might have to work, but you may have two days off in exchange.

Bazz, that is exactly what I thought when I read the title of the thread.... probably on my mind as I will be monthly paid after this Wednesday. I am not sure I ever thought about it when I was working before (monthly paid) but for the last few years I've been a temp, so would have been paid for the extra day.

I do remember, 40 years ago, I did 12 hour night shifts and when the clocks moved back we were paid an extra hour. So we should be paid for the extra 'leap day' sureley?
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I probably will be in bed that Wednesday, recovering from a rather riotous weekend in Newcastle- upon- Tyne! Hangovers take soo long to wear off these days and appear with very little effort
