  • 2019 Seedy Advent Calendar

Inspired by Norfolkgrey's 2018 https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ent_98216.html and the fun it was to sow random seeds for Advent, its time to start again for 2019. (OK, I know it should have started yesterday but dates are meaningless in the VC Calendar )

I'll be dipping into my random seeds box and pulling out a packet each day and sowing them. You never know your luck and seeds aren't fattening like Chocolate.

Anyone else joining in this year?

Lol, yeah, I’m with you but I’ll only be sowing from my box of ancient tomato seeds from pre 2010...will be interesting to see which actually germinate

Here’s my fantasy seed sowing for the 1st & 2nd. All of my selection are seeds I don’t own, have never grown, but would like to.

I'm picking from a plastic box labelled "Odd Edibles/Herbs".
They're the seeds you buy on impulse because you like the name or they sound interesting but never actually get around to sowing. Most of these are well past their sow-by date.

Day 1 - Variegated Land Cress /Barbarea vulgaris variegata. Sow by 6/2007

Day 2 - Kasuri Methi / Trigonella corniculata Packed March 2013

I'll sow these tomorrow with another one, yet to be pulled out of the box.

I won't be able to join in until January, and then I will be happy to sow something every day Too much to do before Christmas, and I'm away for two weeks over Christmas and I don't trust my house sitter to keep anything watered lol

I’m a massive fan of Land Cress, didn’t realise you could get a variegated type, may try it.

For 3rd Dec, I’ve picked out Red Fig Tomato

Day 3 - Skirret in a brown envelope with a hand written inscription " Collected Aug - Oct 2016".
Don't know whether it came from someone on the Vine or from a seedswap - but its having a chance to grow on the windowsill today..

It’s a conversation starter if nothing else.

On the 4th, it’s time for a Japanese Black Trifele. Hope there are sprinkles on the top!
