    Hi,
I have lifted an area of slabs to make two paths. I thought the 'patio' thing the previous plot holder was taking up far to much room.
So I have lifted them all and have found them bedded in with what looks like a couple of inches of builders sand. Then underneath that I have found a plastic sheeting, under that is a shed load of pebbles and bricks. Underneath the pebbles seems to be another layer of plastic and them more pebbles.
So I am wondering firstly why did I bother, but also what to do with the builders sand? Can I dig some of it into the ground or do I need to get rid of all of it?

Have taken some pics of area and sand so you can see what I am trying to describe to you.
    Thanks

It looks like coarse sand so should be ok to dig in. Use it first to get the slabs level.

i know that feeling but think of when you will have some lovely plants in that place instead
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

My first allotment I had something similar where a previous owners shed had been placed, there were blow-away frames and plastic, scaffolding fitting, bricks, glass, concrete all kinds of dross. Now its one of the best areas on my plot.

On my new plot, I'm putting all the broken concrete, bricks and stones under the patio area to the side of my shed to raise the ground level and provide a base for my paving slabs. Re the sand put in metal trays in a greenhouse, dry it off and fill milk bottles to make soft bricks for weighing down nets and weed membrane etc.

I have used a bit to sort some of my slabs out. Some of my plot is clay and they say you can use sand to improve the structure of the soil. Is this the sort they mean?
