  • Vertices growing arch

    Hey guys

I'm looking for a bit of help and advice.

I've been watching a YouTube video of a vertical growing arch made from cattle panels.

After searching the internet for cattle panels I've found that they can only be bought in the USA. So I was wondering if I could use welded mesh. My question is would I be able to be bend into an arch?

If anyone know of any other material I could use tell me know.

    Cheers

Weld mesh is made from something called hard drawn steel, very tough indeed. The only proper safe way of bending it that I know is to use a purpose machine and they cost a fortune.

The arch looks amazing, exactly what I was thinking of building myself. Did you end up using a roll of weldmesh or panels? And what is supporting the sides of the top part? You've got a really good shape there, I'm jealous!

We bought the mesh from this website.
              Wire Mesh 50mm x 50mm 12g - Mesh Direct
I know it quite pricey but we will be able to make two arches from one roll.
The metal strip you could pick up from any metal supplier they were 1 1/4 inch by eighth of an inch it's aluminium. We got two 3 metre stripes but it all depends on how wide you wanted it.
If we were to make the arch again we might use a thicker wire then we might not have to use the metal strip.

That looks a really good site, not only for making arches but for anyone thinking of getting chooks.

                    Very impressive Natalie.

What length of mesh did you end up using? The arch seems a good size all round, I'm just wondering how long the strip was that you used?

I've saved a pic to my 'good ideas' folder. If I ever get a suitable garden again I shall be copying that!

I think I used this one when building mine, cheaper for long rolls Aviary mesh | Wire Mesh | Welded Mesh - Hot dip galvanised meshes, chicken wires and welded meshes (although it doesn't have the grams for direct comparisons)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments.

The roll of wire was 12.5 metre meaning we could make two arches. The arch in the picture is around 5.8 metres.

The metal strips were 1 1/4 inch by eighth of an inch it's aluminium. We got two 3 metre stripes but it all depends on how wide you wanted it.
