I could make one for my mum (who didn't harvest the Charlottes I put in a tub for her because she didn't fancy putting her hand in compost she'd seen me add manure to)
But that bucket looks ever so little even for one spud plant.Comment

I'd seen these a while back and actually thought it to be a pretty novel idea to be honest, especially regarding "Charlotte" spuds
I must admit, the tub also looks ever so tiny to me too, but I have a fair few 35Ltr pots down on the plot, and as I tend to spend the afternoon down ther tomorrow, I'll grab a couple n knock one of these up, just to see if it actually works!

I would be interested to know how viable the idea is Deano as I think that unless the MPC is just right as you pull the inside bucket out the whole lot could end uo in a heap on the floor.I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

Use a carrier bag instead. Place inside pot, pull bag out when ready, roll down bag to remove spuds then roll back up andplace back in bucket seemples.

Strange really...when growing new spuds in that size of pot I usually get a couple of boiling's per pot. I never managed to harvest a dish of spuds and still have an untouched bucket full left.

I don't understand, why not just tip the lot out if they're ready? I'd bet my right arm that the two buckets would be wedged together anyway after 20 weeks sitting there with all that soil in, and you'd end up tipping out the lot just to get them apart...He-Pep!Comment

Because for someone like my mum, the joy of the thing is to 'pop out to the back step and fetch two potatoes for tea'. This little ritual would be spoiled if she had to dump the soil out all over the step....and it wouldn't feel as special if she had to store them for weeks in a cupboard.Originally posted by bario1 View Post
