I have a spare bit of garden left, could fit another raised bed but it is fairly shady, so was thinking of a potting shed, see a myriad available online.
any advice? things to look out for/ avoid?

Wooden sheds can be quite cheap and flimsy so buy well, also figure on it needing to be off the damp soil on slabs or piers and needing regular coats of the modern preservatives that are devoid of the nasty chemicals that used to keep sheds viable for a century of more.
There are modern 'tin' constructions that are cheap and reguire less maintenance but the suffer condensation in winter and boiling heat in the summer. Good for general tool storage though.
I'm not trying to put you off, just give you a heads up on what to expect. Sheds are great and I've built my own for my allotment out of pallets (theres a thread on here somewhere) which got treated to commercial creasote and is due another coat next year. I've just had a huge shed built in my garden at the end to replace all the fence and give me massive storage.

I have 6mx3m polytunnel, and a storage shed, thought a place where I could sit and potter would be ideal

A greenhouse wouldn't like the shade,some plants do alright in shade,people usually mention fruit bushes & probably rhubarb. Have you got plenty of growing space to sacrifice land for shed?Location : EssexComment

never enough space but enough for what I grow, and back to the shade thing, anything I tried to grow there would be iffyComment
