  • New containers

After over 20 years of use 2 of my large containers have given up the ghost to wood rot. SWMBO insists I replace them as this is where I grow her peas

The new ones will be made of tantalised timber sized 1000mm x 800mm x 300mm and if they last as long as the now defunct ones they should see me out. Having waited for a dry day (its not wise to use 240volt power tools in the rain) I got round to cutting things to length today.

At this time of year progress will be weather dependent....... I don't do working in the rain these days.

The wood you're using has a great thickness,I bought a raised bed kit few yrs ago, half the thickness,I need tools to do my own,but I'd probably cut my finger off. SWMBO is a very lucky lady. Tantalising wood sounds exciting

Good luck, something to keep you busy.
Are you filling with fresh compost or recycling the old.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

^^^^^^^ Recycling the old except for that closest to the rotted timber, that will go in the garden bin, after all we can't take risks with SWMBOs peas.

Well after a few months of ducking and diving the lady finally caught up with me today.

Lovely warm sunshine here so no excuses.

First I assembled the two bases, then prepped the 6 uprights then finally assembled the sides. One finished one to go.

After a day spent dodging the rain showers we have lift off, the containers are ready for filling and SWMBO's peas are chitting, reckon I'll get 120 plants in those two.

They look great. I'm hoping to make something similar for my herb garden good to be able to see how you put it together

It's not very pretty but should last long enough to see me out. For herbs of course you wouldn't need the large uprights but they make supporting the peas easy and then when the spring cabbage take over they are easy to net.

Well the KW peas seem happy in their new home nearly 3ft high.

That's one happy SWMBO and lots of brownie points for me.
