Sorry, that's no where near enough information, what type of jobs ? corded or battery ? what extra functions are required ? hammer, screwdriver, etc

It will depend on what you want to spend and how much of a workhorse it will be. If you're going to be using it a lot then probably worthwhile investing in a good quality brand like Makita, De Walt, Bosch professional etc. If it's only going to be used every other month then I'd go for something cheaper.

Either way, I'd choose a lithium ion battery. If your not going to be using it regularly then nickel cadmium batteries can run flat and eventually become difficult to recharge. I'd also go for at least 18V.

I echo what spamvindalo says our makita drill with 2 batteries has last us 5 years and that's being used heavily on building sites as well. I would buying a new one would go lithium. Shop around some places do some good offers

Thanks to all. There are lots of works pending at homw and lottie..so would be using heavily. and cardless is better. hammer ,screw driver functions would also be interested. will check them on then.

So you want a cordless multi function (hammer, screwdriver etc) drill which is going to be used heavily? It would spend on your budget but something like this is a good all round drill for a reasonable price:

                Makita DHP456SMIJ 18V 4.0Ah Li-Ion LXT Cordless Combi Drill | Combi Drills | Screwfix.com

It's not top of the range but should tackle just about any DIY job. If you're really going to be using it a lot, you might want to look for a model with two batteries or buy an extra battery separately.

Also, there's no point buying a quality drill and using drill bits from the pound shop. I got a set of Makita bits when I bought my makita drill. Think they were about £30 so not particularly expensive.

ok, I have a question again.

2 x 2Ah or 1 x 3Ah drill batteries? which one you choose and the pros cons for both.

                  ty.

A 3Ah battery will last roughly half as long again as a 2Ah battery so would allow you to do more without changing batteries so may be more convenient.

2 x 2Ah batteries together should last longer overall than a 3Ah battery. Plus you can have one on charge whilst using the other and keep swapping/charging which would probably let you work more or less continuously (provided you had somewhere to charge the batteries).

Go for the best you can afford. If the budget is towards £100, you can get a top notch portable drill with hammer capability . Mine is a Dewalt and it cost around that. I've got an old JCB drill in my garage with an iffy charger but it does work. Shame you are so far away. The batteries are so heavy carriage would cost a bomb

I doubt very much if you would need to buy a pro product like Makita. However if you did go down that route make sure you buy from the LXT range. Batteries are darned expensive if bought separately a 4OAh Makita Li-Ion will cost you £75 plus vat. With the LXT range you can buy bare tools for use with your batteries. Everything from a powered scooter to a circular saw.

If you don't wish to spend that sort of money I can highly recommend Screwfix's own brand Erbauer. Screwfix code 7645F is a 18 volt combi drill with two 2OAh batteries for £66-66p + vat. I have used Erbauer professionally for over 20 years and never been disappointed with performance or longevity and we work our drills very hard indeed.

As to drill bits forget the branded ones like Makita, DeWalt etc you are only buying the name. Again Erbauer do a set 45 pieces, YG8 carbide tips for £20 + vat Screwfix code 98244 again we use them professionally and can't fault them. You can also buy them singly to replace any you burn out.

I forgot, buy one with two batteries. Li-Ion batteries will provide maximum power until they are very nearly discharged so you get little or no warning they are about to fade, you then have a 30 to 60 minute wait whilst you charge the battery. Having said that again it what you are going to use it for, one of my chaps installed a 6 radiator central heating system without having to charge a 3OAh battery once, one full charge did the job.
