  • Advice on laying stone path

I have an unlimited supply of natural river stone and want to create a path through my small woodland border. I'd like to use concrete/sand to keep the stones secure but haven't got a clue what proportions to use. Does anyone have any builders knowledge they can share with me please?

At a guess you will be looking at a mix of 4 parts Sharp sand to 1 part Portland cement, keep the mix a dry as possible if the stones are wet &/or granite a bit wetter if the stones are dry &/or slate/sandstone.
If they are like large/medium sized pebbles, hammered into a dry mix on edge will give a hard wearing path that has more foot grip than if laid on thier back.
Have a look at images of pebble paths in Madeira for patterns ..

Thanks Bearded Bloke.... will try that mix - love the designs but most of the stones I have are the same colour (just as well as the patterns are probably a tad ambitious for my lowly capabilities!)
