  • giant strawberries

This year I have had some massive strawberries growing. Not sure of the variety as all my plants are now a bit mixed together from the original set up of three different varieties.

I picked a few yesterday and came across some absolute whoppers! I had to weigh one just to see
It weighed exactly 50g as seen in the photo

    Can anyone beat that???

Can't say I've ever weighed a single strawberry. As long as they taste nice I don't mind what size they are.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Next year they will be slightly smaller. Strawberries have a three year cycle, year one small fruit, year two best yield and heaviest crop, year three lighter yield. Year 4 not worth keeping, throw away and transplant with your runners. Trying to keep them in rows helps you remember which rows which.

I didn't weigh this one by itself, but it was massive! I took a pictures of it in my hand and with a peach as comparison:

It's not the size, it's how you use it apparently :P

All fruit seems to be having an exceptional year. We all grow the same variety of strawberry on our site. They are sooooooo sweet bit nobody knows what make they are! We just keep propagating from them every year

Lottie, mine are Sonata which is a cross between Elsanta and Polka. I seem to be getting an extra large one from each of my plants

Maybe its just jealousy but I always think the big ones lack the flavour of normal sized ones.

No need to send cream, I'll buy that

Big is normal for Maxim and they are delish. I don't mind anyone with little ones being jealous of my big ones
