  • TnM are doing 2 free blueberry bushes. Well you pay the £5 postage so not exactly free but if you were ordering something anyway then can't really argue. https://www.thompson-morgan.com/TM_GY20

If you order something that isn't on the linked page, you have to pay normal P&P for those.

Aldi have fruit trees in at £9.99 each.

'Grow your own beautiful fresh British fruit trees with this easy to follow set! Each set includes a stake, netting, tree tie and compost. Choose from 7 Apple, 5 Pear, 3 Plum or 3 Cherry Tree varieties that grow to approx. 160cm high.'

Not been to have a look yet so don't know what the varieties are. Assuming 160 cm is the final tree height, they are on quite dwarfing rootstocks?

and the even earlier one when we all contacted Aldi to find out which rootstocks they were using. https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ldi_83407.html

                • I'll go and have a look at them later today and see if they say what rootstocks they're on.

                  • They only had one crate of trees and only one of each variety. Presumably someone had already bought the missing ones. 160 cm is definitely the height they're selling them at, not the final height.

Found 6 out of 7 apples, on MM106 rootstock - Cox's Orange Pippin, Howgate Wonder, Bramley's Seedling, Braeburn, Discovery and James Grieve

Found all 3 cherries, on Colt rootstock - Sunburst, Stella and Morello

Found 4 out of 5 pears, on Quince A rootstock - Doyenne du Comice, Beurre Hardy, Concorde, Conference

Found 1 out of 3 plums, on St Julian A rootstock - Opal

                    • Lidl had got various gardening bits and bobs when I visited today. There were various dahlia tubers, and some other bulbs, some rather sad looking herbs, some rather healthy looking flowery things (not something I know much about, but I think they included campanulas and sweet williams) and lots of bags of compost. It was 99p for a 20L bag. They were a bit damp (and heavy), so I only managed one bag in addition to the rest of my shopping (as I had to walk home) but the quality seems reasonable on initial inspection (but I haven't tipped it all out to have a proper look). I will definitely head back for more, as it's much closer for me than anywhere else.

They also had a range of things indoors, and I snapped some photos:

                        • Sorry, I didn't get pictures of most of the prices. I remember thinking the coconut coir was expensive for the amount, maybe 2 for £4? The grow table is similar to my Elho ones, but cheaper - I think the grow table with lid was £19.99. My Elho tables were about £23 each, and I had to buy the lids separately. The quality of the plastic is clearly not as good and the plastic lids are a bit cloudy, but they seemed like pretty decent little raised planters and would be great for getting some early lettuces going (mine have sprouted in my Elho table) or even overwintering some greens. If I didn't have another house move (or two) this year, then I would have been very tempted by those.

I did buy one of the seed sprouters though, and am happy with that. It was £1.99 and came with a seed sprouting jar (with a lid that acts as a sieve and a stand so it can drain at an angle) and a packet of radish seeds to sprout. I bought my Mother something similar a couple of years ago and spent considerably more.

A bit too late to the party I imagine, but what are the things in the last photo, they look interesting.

                              • I did buy a 99p multi seed packet from Aldi the other week which contained 8 different sorts of seeds including 2 tomato varieties and a courgette - last of the big spenders :-)
