germinating beetroot in modules

I'm sure I've read on this site that someone had started off their beetroot in modules under glass. Just wanted to know what size modules to use, how may seeds to a section and if beetroot is happy to be transplanted as it's a root veg. Says on the pack to sow in March outside but as I have a heated G/H, would it be ok to sow now? Thanks everso for any help

Beetroot "seed" is actually a cluster of seeds, so only sow one per module. The ones I use are plastic cell trays (each "pot" about one and a half inches square) As long as you don't leave them in the cells too long they seem to transplant quite well. I also use this method for starting onion sets

Thanks for that RL i will be trying this out as soon as the snow clears and i can get to the greenhouse.
All other seeds and seedlings are covered in fleece and wrapped up nice and warm in the GH

Yes, but only overnight - just enough to rehydrate (it's also supposed to remove what they call germination inhibitors - whatever they are). I put them in a shallow dish, fill with water, leave for an hour or so, pour the water away and refill. Leave overnight, rinse again and then sow.

Last year sowed seed in egg boxes(tip from someone on vine),and they did brilliantly.You just plant out in the egg box moduals, so the roots dont get desturbed at all.
