  • Tiny Tom's

Well, these Tom's have been weeks growing in the cold greenhouse which has been mostly warm all day and night, but after potting on they just are not growing fast like they usually do. Shall I add Q4 to the pots to speed things up?

How long since you potted them on, Marb? Were they all grown from seed?

About a week ago I potted them on as they were in little 1 inch pots for a while. Yes I grew them from seed. Usually they would be roping along by now but I suppose the sporadic hot cold hot cold weather has confused them

Probably just the shock of being moved honestly. A week is still pretty early, they usually sulk for a bit after potting on then suddenly take off. I'd hold off on the Q4 for now and give them another week or two first.

May is always warm spells mixed with cold spells. We had the heating on last night it was two/three degrees most of the night. The purple on the tomato leaf underside shows they’ve been cold & the upturned leaves, they’re normal reactions from the plants to show they’ve been exposed to the cold. I’d keep an eye on the temperature in there every day,it’s difficult to make them warmer in a cold greenhouse, when it’s two degrees overnight,is there a solar powered overnight heater for greenhouses?

Well, still not as big as they would be this time of year. Do you think they will crop?

It's not June yet! . Stick 'em in some bigger pots when the roots are visible in the holes at the bottom of the pots. Keep them in the sunshine and they'll get there. Failing that, put them in their final locations now.

Some will go in the ground and others will be potted on in various size pots. The smaller pots I can add manure as I have a bag of Clover rotted manure. They usually do well in the normal garden soil that hasn't had any compost added except some organic veg fertilizer granules etc and of course Tommorite.

A lot of mine are smaller than yours Marb, but they will catch up once they are planted up in the greenhouse and go on to give me loads of lovey fruits.
