Lifted our first spuds at the weekend. Went for the 'Isabelia' (aka Pembrokeshire early from the dregs of a shop-bought bag) as these have the shortest growing time of our lot.

Enough for 4-5 individual portions from one plant so not a bad haul for 76 days since planting (blurb online says 80-90 days to harvest).

Nice texture - firm but not too firm. Very thin skin.

Flavour-wise, opinions are divided here. OH raved 'ooo, lovely'. I thought they were nice but the flavour was very mild to me.

One of my bags were a mere skeleton, not a leaf left. Decided to tip it out. Don't think we will be full after that haul

Almost 9 weeks since planting under straw…and some of my Charlotte are in flower.
Second earlies…supposed to be about 15 weeks before they are ready to harvest.
    Hmmmm…

Wow - that's really early for Desiree isn't it? I've heard them classed as an 'early' maincrop but there's early & then there's 1st early early

We finally got all our spuds in last Thursday.
Well - I thought we had, then, when I was vacuuming today, I spotted one under the sofa which Hibou had clearly pinched and played with

I got some donated spuds from the couple who have the plot next door.
They were well beyond there plant by date and came from a grocer who never got them sold in time before they sprouted.
The light starved shoots were almost a foot long and now have little bunches of leaves on them. They must be ready for earthing up.

Spotted our first spud leaves showing on Friday They're literally just starting to stick their heads about an inch at most above ground but I was unreasonably excited

It's definitely been ridiculously wet here too - so not an excuse at all but a very sensible decision

Good to know we're ahead of someone Nicos lol

That said, we learnt the hard way that it's much better to plant a few weeks later than the date the books tell you is the 'right' time & actually get a crop than it is to plant in the wrong conditions.
