  • Courgettes

Have the ends of some of my courgettes going brown and soft. They are in a cold greenhouse. Have loads of flowers on them [6] but only a few changing to fruits.
Any help with this problem would be most welcome.
    Thanks.
    Bob.

It sounds as though the flowers are not getting pollinated. This can happen at the start of the season anyway, but it may help to try to pollinate the female flowers by hand.

If they are in a greenhouse, you will probably need to hand pollinate. Even outside, courgette and squash pollination by insects can be patchy at best, and in a greenhouse you should just assume it won't happen.

        Thanks for that.

Hi all - for any beginners out there, when pollinating by hand anything in this family of plants, which also includes melons it's often easier to snap off a male flower and just push it into any female flowers which are open, no need for paint brushes - buzzing noises optional :-)
