I was thinking of spending my voucher on garlic - are T&M good for garlic, or should I stick with Plan A and get it from the isle of wight??

Just a recognition post for the winners would seem fine to me - or perhaps Ben (or whoever) could create a "winner" banner which any winners could have on their posts for the next month (or even year). Just an idea!

this is a great idea, a winners banner for the current year, the prizes last year were a lovely idea but must have been a real nightmare (p.s where are the caddies Sainsbury's????) admittedly the T&M voucher and free seeds was very much appreciated.

I to,don't know what to get with my top tip voucher,plenty of time yet,as is valid until30 June 09,I expect minds will change many times before a final decison.

Looking forward to the VVS if it goes ahead this year. Was great fun last year, and with so many new members, competition is bound to be more ferocious

On the subject of competitions, does anyone have access to a NVS Judges handbook - wanna know what they look for in cucumber exhibits as I have been persuaded that I should eneter the Sutherland County Show in a fortnights time.

Well we've had the show . Does anybody know when it gets judged or what happens next. It's a shame it's a bit of a damp squid compared with last year.

Like yourself I have no idea when the various picies will be judged but as it's all down to our mods this year, maybe we should give them a bit more time as they are all busy people in their own right.
Either that or we could think about setting up a voting poll - no comments, just a poll for each class where you log your own votes and when the closing date is reached, you have your winners - but is there a way you can ensure multiple vote casting can be stopped ?
Might take a while to set up but would save our mods a heap of time maybe ?

yes i like the idea of virtual prizes like banners , all you need is a banner of gold , silver or bronze with a label to say what it was for.

It's a shame that things haven't gone so well in comparison to last year.

All I can say is that the admins did make it clear in advance that they wouldn't have any time to devote to it this year and it's been particularly unfortunate in that us mods have been variously moving house, changing jobs and working away from home, as well as all our usual day to day stuff.

I think the poll idea may be a worker. I'll look into it!

I don't think the usual kind of poll would work for the judging BUT
if we set a closing date and grapes could go into the individual categories and vote just by entering the name they wanted to vote for the votes would be easy to count up and nobody could vote twice without being spotted. We could, off course, vote for ourselves.

What I meant was to have a seperate poll for each category with a closing date and then it would be a simple case of tallying up the votes to see who had been voted the winner by their peers.

Yes I understand what you mean about the polls but all the entrants would have to be listed in the poll.
The categories and entries are all already there and it would be simple just to make an entry of a name. See what I mean ?
