  • The Pea and Bean Circle 2019

Anyone is welcome to join, so long as you meet the vine rules by November.

Save 1 variety of either peas or beans (no F1's) with 10-15 seeds in the pack - usually 2 or 3 beans. Though happy to change it to 2 varieties if you prefer? ) It's not difficult and you'll be surprised how few beans you need to save - and you get great returns.

How To Save Your Own Seed at Home

As I'm also running the Tom and chilli circles you can save on post and put all your saved seeds in one envelope.

    Named varieties only please!

No pressure, register your interest - and the varieties you fancy saving if you know what you are going to grow. Things don't always grow the way we want so varieties can change or you can opt out later if everything goes pear shaped.

It would be lovely to welcome some new seed savers on board, or old hands that don't often join the seed circles....c'mon give it a go!

Previous years circle info with seed saving links can be found here:

I'll have a go - just hoping it'll be a better year than last - 2017 was a really bad year for all things in pods, and I've no idea why

              Hi all,
I intend to save some beans this year anyway and this circle is a logical extension. Plug it will encourage me to keep to target.
Not had much success with beans previously, even hardy broad beans don’t like Caithness weather. As for French beans, I was restricted to growing dwarf varieties in the greenhouse.

              Varieties trying this year are:-
              Solista (Borlotti)
              Carminat
              Monte Cristo
              Monte Gusto

                  PS.

                  I’ve started.
Saved some seeds from pods that a grown up the fence between plots.
No idea the variety, but will to give them a go.
Inside the pods were shiny pure black beans.

                              Will do.

Picking the beans from the fence was just curiosity getting the better of me. Wanted to what they were and how well they dried. Last place I lived was too wet, not that I could grow beans outside anyway.
