Snow is an excellent insulator and with the amount we've had recently. the frost shouldn't have done too much damage - unless you are a water pipe in Northern Ireland of course.

i have some in a hanging basket that you plant in the sides aswell as up top and the ones in the sides have just drooped right down, no spring in them at all.
                Will they come back?

This is the downside of 'winter' pansies, they get all sulky when you most need them and then get all 'up and at it' when you don't.

But still I plant them year on year

They bounce back. Not much copes with the deep snows and hard frosts we've had and keeps flowering - but they are tougher than you think.

I stick with the smaller winter violas as I find them much tougher than the larger pansies. They've shrugged off the snow and now flowering away again.
