I sowed some calendula "art shades" in the herb garden after a good weeding this afternoon.

I agree Burnie. My windowsills are full of cosmos, geraniums etc. I need to put them in the greenhouse before hardening off next month, but the overnight greenhouse temperature has been hovering around +2. I hate my geraniums getting red leaves when they get a chill.

Container gardener, my cosmos have started to flower in pots in the greenhouse.
Waiting for milder weather to plant them out.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Lots of direct sowing in the garden today- blue and white cornflowers, blue and white nigella, corncockle, salvia and night stocks. Also planted nirene bulbs and liatris spicata bulbs.

I scattered nigella seeds last year when I took the ripe seed heads off the plants, and they germinated through autumn. They are tall and coming into bud now.

I tried to grow nigella from last years seed but without success so bought new seed. Will try again this year.

I sowed some Grandpa Otts Morning Glory yesterday and they've already germinated! I'd soaked them the night before and thought I could see that the shell had opened on some of them and today they're pushing up.

I also sowed some Hollyhock Halo Red for next year. Haven't had hollyhocks for years and was just craving some.

Planted out two salvia amistad that I had grown from cuttings. Really chuffed that I managed to grow them - first time I’ve done something from cuttings and will save me lots of money if I can do that more often.
