Tomato seedlings

Hi everyone
My tomato seeds germinated really quickly last weekend when it was hot and sunny, they were on a windowsill. So to avoid them getting leggy I started taking them out to the greenhouse in the daytime and bringing them back in at night.
The problem is they seem to have stopped growing? They still only have their seed leaves, nothing has grown in last week? they are still only about 2cm tall.
Greenhouse is about 18C in day? Is it too cold? Am I just impatient?
Any advice is greatly welcomed.

They sound fine, as long as they look healthy, a week isn't long for true leaves to start growing. First they grow up and then a pause while they gather strength for the next stage of growing. I've got some nearly week old seedlings and I can only just see the start of true leaves, mine are still in a heated propagator. 18C is warm enough, if the seedlings are overcrowded it will slow them down.

Thank you for the reassurance, they look healthy enough (better than me with my cold!) I've just popped in greenhouse and its definitely warm enough so I'll try o be patient.

Just make sure they do not dry out, can happen easily if they are in small section growing containers. Moved all but 2 of mine to 7cm pots and like yours they are outside getting used to the wild world during the day then inside at night. Today's chilly wind but sun will give them the idea of reality.

I do tend to water mine from the base these days, just as information.

First I'll say welcome to the vine Josepina anytime you can't take your toms into your greenhouse you can leave them on a sunny window sill but with a piece of foil behind them. That will help stop your toms from getting too leggy.

Hi Josepina, welcome to the Vine. It sounds like you're doing everything just right and developing nice compact plants. Once seed leaves have developed it usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks for true leaves to appear depending on growing conditions, keep doing what you're doing
