And that is brilliant, I know the feeling, and to be honest you have little to lose, you may have the earliest toms in Britain if the weather is very kind to you. If it is not you can soon plant some more.Originally posted by FenBuff View PostYeah I know I did read up on that but I was so eager haha....photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

You'll get something - that shouldn't be the problem. Getting a plant thats not like a tryphid trying to get to the light which doesn't exist may be your problem. And if its used to 20C you'll need to be very careful when it goes outside.
No harm trying but I'd plan on a second planting towards end of Feb / into March even if the first looks OK at that point. You might need to dispose of one of them or find more space to plant a second plant.
However, you might prove us all wrong...

*whispers.....I've just moved some seedlings onto kitchen windowsill (south facing) but still in unheated prop cos it's cooler than the room where they germinated.
I actually don't mind leggy tom seedlings (shock horror) cos I plant them on deep and they grow extra roots out of the stem....

I have been gardening since i was ten and now i am 65, but for various reason each time i start a garden (usualy from sctatch) just when it begins to get to something like a garden we move and i have to start again. I am getting worried on this garden because weve been here 15 years. I dont have an allotment.Originally posted by FenBuff View PostYeah I know ... I have a few more seeds anyway so if I don't get anything I will have to sow some more
How long have you had your plot?
i think (others may disagree) that you should leave them in the window until they are up then gradualy introduce them into the conservatory (maybe just in the day for while) then full time in there until its warm enough to put them out or into a green house. But still plant some more in early march because I think you may well need them.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

Yeah I will sow some more in march then!! Core you've done it for a long time then? I've liked allotments since I was 15 now 24 but I have always liked to be self sufficient .. When I've got my allotment up and running thinking of getting some chickens or pigs not to sure yet

Mine move from airing cupboard to by the window next to it and then to kitchen for a while before conservatory ....they will stay in prop until warmer. When they go in conservatory they have a fleece blankie overnight or if very cold. Too much warmth without enpough light makes them leggy, too little warmth they curl up their toes....its all a bit of juggling act .Originally posted by FenBuff View PostSo do you think I should put it in my conservatory ? Where it's colder ? And more light ..S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

I would go for the chickens, taking on pigs is quite a commitment. I also think you have to get registered as a small holder with lots of red tape. Do you know how to cure an injured pig? rub it with oinkment.Originally posted by FenBuff View PostYeah I will sow some more in march then!! Core you've done it for a long time then? 20c might be what your thermostat tells you, but have you tested the temp on the windowsill itself? Next to the glass is pretty cold (put your hand on the glass), esp at night.Originally posted by FenBuff View PostYes I have put them in a windowsill which is 20c
Take windowsill temp daytime & again at night. That's your true temp
If there isn't enough daylight they will grow tall, thin & weak.Originally posted by FenBuff View PostWhat do you suggest then?
The solution is to sow seed when the daylight gets longer & stronger: from the middle of March when the clocks go forward
I agree to an extent, the cost of seed, pot & compost is small.Originally posted by Bill HH View Postyou have little to lose
