Thought I would just write this nonsense email wishing everyone a happy new year. Spades at the ready, seeds ordered and arranged, labels made up, fertilizer at the ready, onion set standing to attention, potatoes waking up and sprouting eyes. Yep to all, well your ready for the new season lurking around the corner...excited, chomping at the bit, muscles flexing, legs twitching? Well dig out the comfy clothes, uproot yer bums from the armchair and begin to brace yerselves. DID YOU KNOW SPRING IS COMING TO CALL.....HAPPY SEASON AND GOOD CROPPING EVERYONE. TA TA

I agree. We are all excited and chomping at the bit. I do wonder though how many of us have started sowing things even though we know it's a little early for some seeds due to low light levels?

Contemplating

Got an indoor propagator for the windowsill and some seed compost, I am now contemplating starting my dhalias, pumpkins and celeriac.

Is this a little naughty? First time I've grown dhalias from seed and someone told me they need starting indoors around February - oh please let it be true!

I'm having a minor (not a real major!!!) panic as all my seeds arrived today. How did I get so carried away. Gulp

I envy you all getting started in February, I will need to wait at least until April before I start sowing any seeds, even in the propagator. Might try a few broad beans though - they are pretty hardy arnt they ?? I have to start SOMETHING !!

Hi Andrew,

You could start your dahlia's off now but you'll need to keep them somewhere frost free till you plant them (thats why I've got 2 greenhouses & 2 coldframes ).

I know what it's like, but I'd wait a bit for the dahlia's as they'll be big plants by April/May (whens your last frost?). I've only just watered my tubers up to take cuttings (hopefully by the end of this month) and come May it's like a rain forest here !

Last frost

Our last frost tends to be round april but I'm using and indoor propagator on a windowsill, for instance, today the sun is glorious through the window but it is cold outside, my mini greenhouse is steamed up!
