    As you may remember I planted 8 Rondo pea seeds and some onion seeds ten days ago.

    Well one pea, I've named her Polly, germinated within 24 hours and now she is 4 inches high! she's a very healthy colour and has leaves at the top and half way down, trouble is none of the others have yet made an appearance and how do I slow Polly down as she can't go in the raised bed until April/May??

    They are sat in the unheated utility room, the onions are germinating too much more slowly..do I need to move Polly to a bigger pot and then into the garage to slow her...I've no idea

    Mine are Mangetout, not peas but same veg family. They started to germinate from day 3 onwards (being soaked before sowing) and they're between 2"-5" high but I now leave them in an unheated greenhouse to stop them getting thin/leggy. This is the only seedlings I leave out at night but I intend to take them indoors if there's a frost.

          Polly is obviously a one-off. Germinating in 24 hours makes her a child prodigy at least. Is she in her own pot, or does she share a seed tray with her (as yet ungerminated) siblings?

            I was putting off sowing my mangetout, but it sounds like I don't have to - if that's the case, I'll be busy tomorrow night!! Veg4681, do you soak your seeds overnight or longer and is it necessary?

              She's in a seed tray with her as yet ungerminated siblings...

              Jardiniere, she had to have a name as she is so advanced and I will eat her produce rather than her so I don't feel too bad

              Plan to put her in a pot tonight and subject her during the day to the open porch to try and cool her growth.

                I soaked mine for 30 minutes or so but not more than an hour but I read somewhere about soaking peas overnight which I wouldn't chance it in case they split . The fact that they germinated quickly, I'm pleased with what I did. Good luck.

                  how do I slow Polly down as she can't go in the raised bed until April/May??

                  It's a silly queston, but I am going to ask it anyway...

                    The magazine I was reading said to do so, only it wasn't until I was in the bath a few days later I realised that the magazine although it arrived in January is of course dated MARCH! So I was doing what it said but was about 5 weeks too early!

                    *Note to self to not read magazine until month it is talking about* I told you I'm new to this so I was doing what it said, only too early duh!!! I'll learn and hence havent' planted anything else yet!

                          Oh no...how will I live with myself, eating ALL her children

                          I shall go and beat myself now in penitence... and from now on she will no longer be Polly.....just Pea...

                          Can I name her sister who germinated today?
