  • Sheep wool pellets woe

Well, I forked out for a bag of "Slug Be Gone" wool pellets (they actually smell nice) in the hope of stopping them decimating my plants, including a new Delphinium. Absolutely useless! They have travelled over them and it's business as usual. Delphinium almost gone. I even spotted one slug eating a pellet.

    Never again

Yeah, they're hopeless. Almost all physical barriers are. At best they put the slugs off slightly, but not enough to actually stop them crossing.
Gardening Which did a test on loads of them a few years ago, both commercially available ones and recommended homemade ones (like crushed eggshells or coffee grounds) - none of them worked, and some even seem to cause more slug damage than with unprotected plants.
