  • Raised bed with breeze blocks

    Hello
New here. Looking to have a raised bed for veg growing, approx 300cm x 120cm x 45cm on existing earth. Would this need foundations? Would it need strengthening pier(s)?
Hoping someone has knowledge/experience. I am ignorant!

Welcome Mick, kind of tricky without seeing what your soil is like, if it's sandy like mine, you might get some settling and your walls could move, if you're on clay you might be ok. Are the blocks the single ones or are they the ones with square holes in?

Earth is heavy, so there will be a fair thrust behind.

I would assume that piers would be a good idea if you go more than one or two up
In terms of foundations, it would certainly be better to have some - even if just a trench with some compacted sand

This lot in America didn't seem to

The million dollar question would be to come back and see how they were in a few years time...
