Are you cropping your pics?

You only have to crop or edit if the size of the image file is greater than 2mb.

If you set your camera to 3 megapixels then you don't have to crop or resize the photo as the file size tends to be less than 2mb for this resolution.

I don't resize my photos anyway - and don't use a phone.
Just curious about whether the vertical shots had to be cropped to upload now.

although it doesn't recognise that it's portrait. That one was loaded directly from my phone.

This was taken on the phone and loaded from the desktop

Neither were edited at all.

Often phone photos that are taken as portrait dI'll upload as a landscape....it will do that when you upload to a computer too.
